Preventing Pigmentation this Summer!

Now that summer is in full swing, protecting your skin is more important than ever! Tanning comes at a cost to your skin, as it is a defensive reaction that damages cells. So how do you enjoy a tropical vacation or a day in the sun, while protecting the pigmentation of your skin? The Age Traveler recommends that when spending time in the sun, try to limit products with exfoliating qualities and avoid over-cleansing. He does not recommend slowing down with retinol during your holiday, but to keep only a night time application and also applying a full face of SPF in the mornings.

Now that we have discussed what to avoid, what products can we increase in the summer? The Age Traveler recommends increasing the amount of vitamin C, SPF application, and incorporating more moisturizing masks into your regimen. A hidden summer skincare secret is tranexamic acid, which can help reduce the appearance of redness and prevents post-inflammatory pigmentation. Other products you can consider adding to your skincare toolbelt during the summer months are any which contain anti-inflammatory properties and extra moisturizing ingredients.

Will you be trying tranexamic acid on your summer holiday? Don’t forget your sunscreen, sun hat and make sure to have fun!
